Save our Gaywood River

The Gaywood River in King’s Lynn is one of only 200 chalk streams on the planet. This is a rare asset to our local area. Chalk streams in full health are home to a wide range of plant and animal life.

Unfortunately something is going wrong. About half way down the rivers length, around Bawsey, the river changes from being crystal clear and full of life into a murky sludge filled with decomposing dead plants.

We are currently collecting signatures on our petition to the Environmental Agency to show that local people care about the state of our river and want it to be restored to full health.

We are looking at buying water quality testing equipment and creating a “citizens science” project to allow local people (including kids) to take an active role in monitoring and looking after the state of the river. If you’re able, please consider donating to support these projects.
